You will be notified via a School Messenger message and by local radio stations. Prior to the ceremony, I wish to clarify some important points:

  • First and foremost, congratulations on one of your daughter or son's most significant accomplishments in her or his academic career - graduation from high school. I am sure that you will cherish this memorable moment. On behalf of the faculty, may I say that this represents a very significant milestone in our role as professionals. We look forward to this class joining our many distinguished alumni. The Class of 2018 will leave its own unique and pleasant memories.

  • The first graduation rehearsal will be on Friday, June 15 at 12:00 p.m. Caps and gowns will be given out following Friday’s rehearsal. Students are expected to iron their gowns prior to all senior events on Monday, June 18. A final graduation rehearsal will be held on Monday, June 18 at 11:30 a.m. during our Class Day Awards ceremony. Tickets will be distributed following the Class Day Awards ceremony. Participation in all rehearsals and all senior events is mandatory. Any graduating seniors who do not participate in graduation rehearsals and senior events will not be allowed to walk at graduation.

Once again, we will simulcast the graduation in the Science & Technology High School Lecture Hall during graduation for those people who cannot be accommodated in the high school auditorium (in the event of inclement weather).
  • A photographer will be present to photograph your child receiving his/her diploma. The website to check on these photos is  A flyer is attached. Therefore, parents are asked to refrain from taking photographs during the ceremony.
  • Please remember the following:
    • Parking on the High School campus will be limited. We would strongly suggest that after you drop your child off at the high school at 4:30 p.m., you proceed directly to the Football Field to ensure a space during the ceremony.
    • Parking is also available at Bates Woods, but please be advised this may require you to walk quite a distance. Please allow adequate time so that you do not miss the ceremony.
    • The access road adjacent to STMHS will be open for guests requiring handicap access to the ceremony location.
    • Our program will start at 6:00 p.m. sharp. The ceremony is scheduled to last 1 ½ hours.

In conclusion, this will truly be a memorable event for the New London High School community. If you have any questions, please call me at (860) 437-6407.

Class of 2018 Safe After-Grad Party

 Tuesday, June 19 - Wednesday, June 20
All graduating seniors who have signed up for this event should meet outside the gymnasium at 9:00pm following the Commencement Ceremony.

Graduation from high school is a significant achievement for your student! New London High School and Science & Technology Magnet High School has a long-standing tradition of celebrating this achievement with our annual Senior After-Grad drug & alcohol-free party. Held each year on the night of graduation, this event is planned entirely by parents of the graduating class. The celebration takes place at a well secured facility supervised by parent volunteers and involves a full range of fun and wholesome activities for the graduates. The party is entirely community-funded and designed to provide a safe and entertaining way for NLHS graduates to prolong their graduation celebration.

Hosting an event of this proportion takes a significant amount of planning, time, volunteers, and money. To make the event a success, we need your help! It is the obligation of the Parents to ensure there is a successful and safe graduation party for all graduating students of the class of 2018. There are countless ways for you to get involved:

Attend monthly planning meetings!

Donate funds or prizes!

Contribute snacks and drinks!

Support our fundraisers!

Donate your time and services!

Help spread the word about this event!

Grad Night celebrations can only succeed with the commitment of parents, the backing of the school, and the generous support of the community. Together, we can provide a safe and fun celebration for our graduates.

Our goal is to have 100% of parents contribute to making this event successful. Please contact Johanna Shaw-Ford via email at and join the Parents of the Class of 2018 in making this event a success!
